Lewis Bernard Cannell

Lewis Bernard Cannell was born in Coventry on 10 June 1926 and educated at Northampton Grammar School and Oxford University. He won three Blues between 1948 and 1950 and gained the first of his 19 caps for England at centre while still a student. After qualifying at St Mary's Hospital he played club rugby for Northampton. He later became a successful radiologist and worked for a while in South Africa. His three appearances for the Barbarians included the match against South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park in 1952. Lew Cannell died on 19 March 2003, aged 76.
