Howard Hindmarsh Campbell

Howard Hindmarsh Campbell was born in Nairobi on 10 November 1921 and educated at Oundle School and Cambridge University where he gained a Blue in 1946. He had already played for Scotland at prop in two Services' internationals and distinguished himself in war service and was awarded the Military Cross. He gained four full caps in 1947 and 1948. He played at club level for London Scottish and in December 1947 represented London Counties against Australia at Twickenham. In peace time he was a much-travelled engineer, working at various times in India and Africa. On 18 September 1950 he captained Ceylon against the British Isles - the Lions' final fixture of their 30-match tour of New Zealand and Australia. Howard Campbell died on 23 February 2012, aged 90.
