Roy Burnett

Roy Burnett was born in Abercarn on 6 October 1926 and educated at the local school. He worked as a steelworks' official. He made his Newport debut as an 18-year-old in 1944 and went on to be club captain in 1953/53 and play against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. He retired after a club career that featured 91 tries and 35 drop goals in 373 appearances. His one cap at fly-half for Wales was against England in 1953. He died on 30 July 1998, aged 71.
