Harold John Catleugh Brown

Harold John Catleugh Brown was born on 4 December 1935 and educated at Crewkerne School and St Luke's College, Exeter. He played at centre and occasionally at fy-half for Harlequins, Northampton and Blackheath. At county level he represented Somerset and Middlesex. In 1957 he played for Western Counties against Australia, in 1960 for Combined Services and London Counties against South Africa, and in 1963/64 for Combined Services and South Eastern Counties against New Zealand. Though he did not win a cap for England in 1962 he achieved the distinction of being drafted in to the British Isles' tour of South Africa and scored three tries in six appearances. In 1959 he played for Blackheath in their centenary match against the Barbarians at White City Stadium, John Brown also represented Great Britain in the bobsleigh in the 1968 Winter Olympic Games.
