Niall Henry Brophy

Niall Henry Brophy was born in Dublin on 19 November 1935 and educated at Blackrock College and University College, Dublin. He qualified as a chartered accountant and played on the wing for Blackrock College. Between 1957 and 1967 he scored four tries in 20 internationals for Ireland. He also played for Leinster against Australia (1957 and 1967), South Africa (1961) and New Zealand (1964). On the British Isles' tour of Australasia in 1959 he severely injured his foot in his first match and returned home early. Three years later he toured again to South Africa and scored two tries in eight appearances, including two tests. In 1967 he captained the Barbarians against East Midlands. Niall Brophy was president of the IRFU in 1997/98.
