Angus William Black

Angus William Black was born in Dunfermline on 6 May 1925 and educated at Dollar Academy and Edinburgh University where he took a degree in medicine. He later became a consultant psychiatrist for the RAF. Gus Black played at scrum-half for Dunfermline and briefly for Bristol and Leicester. In 1944/45 he played for Scotland in two Services' internationals and then in five Victory internationals the following season. His first official cap was against France in 1947 and he represented Scotland another five times in 1948 and 1950. In the summer of 1950 he toured New Zealand and Australia with the British Isles and played in ten matches, including the first two tests against the All Blacks. In 1953 he played for both Combined Services and Midland Counties against the touring All Blacks. He had also played for Glasgow & Edinburgh against the Wallabies in 1947.
