David Revell Bedell-Sivright

David Revell Bedell-Sivright was born in North Queensferry on 8 December 1880 and educated at Fettes College and Cambridge University. He won Blues in four Varsity Matches between 1899 and 2002 and later worked in medicine and as a stock breeder. One of the earliest marauding wing-forwards, he played in 22 internationals for Scotland between 1900 and 1908 and captained his country against New Zealand in 1905. He also went on two British Isles tours - to South Africa in 2003 and as captain to Australia and New Zealand in 2004. His 21 games for the British sides included one test against Australia. He led the Barbarians against Cardiff in 1907. 'Darkie' Bedell-Sivright died of blood poisoning at the battle of Gallipoli on 5 September 1915, aged 34.
