Allan Glen Bateman

Allan Glen Bateman was born in Maesteg on 16 March 1965 and educated at Maesteg Comprehensive School. he worked as a laboratory technician. He played for Maesteg and then Neath from where he gained the first of his 35 Wales caps at centre in 1990. Later that year he joined Warrington rugby league club and also spent two years in Australia with Cronulla Sharks. He played international rugby league for Wales (13 caps) and Great Britain (2). In 1996 he returned to union with Richmond and resumed his international career. In 1997 he toured South Africa with the British Isles, playing in six matches, including one test. In 2000 he was a member of the Northampton team that won the European Cup. Allan Bateman was well into his forties when he was still playing for home town club, Maesteg and at the age of 46 he had a full season with Heol-y-Cyw.
