Michael David Barnes

Michael David Barnes was born in Leicester on 12 July 1976 and educated at Sedbergh School and Durham University. He initially played club rugby at prop for Kendal, West Hartlepool and Newcastle before joining Harlequins. He then moved to Bath for whom he made 266 appearances before retiring in April 2011. At representative level he played for England under-21, England Students, and for England against the Barbarians in 2006. He also captained England Saxons. The first of his four appearances for the Barbarians was in the inaugural Remembrance Match against Combined Services in 1997. David Barnes was chairman of the Rugby Players' Association for six years and in 2011 joined the committee of the Barbarians.
