Wales have named their summer test squad ahead of their opening clash against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium in June.

The match, which forms a double header with Barbarian F.C Women facing Wales Women, will kick start Wales’ summer international programme as they lead into the inaugral Nations Championship.

Barbarian F.C will travel to London to face Steve Tandy’s side after a week in South Africa and a test against the Springboks in Port Elizabeth.

Full details of the Wales squad are below. Tickets for Barbarians v Wales Double Header – Allianz Stadium – Twickenham 27 June are available via Ticketmaster.co.uk and England Rugby, starting from just £40* for adults and £20* for under- 16s. Six uncapped players are selected among the 27 forwards and 21 backs named today: Cardiff Rugby loosehead prop Rhys Barratt, Exeter Chiefs back row Kane James, Dragons back row duo Harrison Keddie and Ryan Woodman, Ospreys tighthead prop Ben Warren plus Harlequins centre Bryn Bradley.

Jac Morgan, Max Llewellyn and Teddy Williams return to the squad having missed the Guinness Six Nations due to injury.

Ellis Bevan, Dillon Lewis, Tommy Reffell and Joe Roberts are also named for Wales.

A decision has been taken to give Tomas Francis a break this summer so he has not been selected in the squad. Archie Griffin will have elective surgery at the end of the season so will not join up with Wales this summer.

Players will join up with Wales on a staggered basis depending on when their club season ends. The first group of players is due into camp on Monday 1 June.

Tandy said: “Some players will finish next weekend and then some might not come into the squad until the 27th of June, so there’s a lot of staggering, that’s the reason for the extended squad. There will be an updated squad post the Barbarians game before we go into the Nations Championship.

“With smaller groups, sometimes it does help that we can get to work with these boys even closer than normal. It’s about getting everyone up to speed then linked to our game model as well.”

On Pete Murchie, who joins as defence coach this summer, and Dan Lydiate who has been appointed full-time as a specialist coach covering defensive contact skills Tandy added: “Pete coming in will add lots of detail and build on some of the defensive performances from the Six Nations. His passion, his energy and his detail will really add value to the group.

“Dan made a big impact throughout the two campaigns he was with us around the close-quarters skills, whether it be the tackle or post-tackle work. I think longer-term as well, how he interacts with the boys outside of campaigns is going to play a huge part in our development individually and as a group.”
