Scott Robertson was proud of the Barbarians as they scored five tries in a narrow defeat to Wales.
The famous invitational club thrilled and entertained at a blistering hot Twickenham.
Wales led throughout the encounter but the Barbarians stayed in the mix with an electric brand of rugby and took the visitors right to the wire.
Alex Nankivell, Santiago Arata and Vincent Koch all crossed while George North grabbed a brace and slotted a conversion with the last kick of his game and career.
Robertson said: “That game had a bit of everything, didn’t it?
“We were pretty keen to come and get a result, as every Baa-Baas team does – we’re a highly competitive group of players.
“We left a few out there, a couple of held-ups and quick taps, that just kept them in the game and that little kick-through that they got.
“We didn’t have enough to win it, but well done to Wales. They stayed in it and it’s good for them to go and defeat Fiji next week. It’s going to be very similar.
“We’re very proud of how we played.”
It was a memorable occasion for Wales and British & Irish Lions legend North, who drew the curtain on his illustrious career after replacing Australia’s Andrew Kellaway, who also walks away from the game.
North scored with his first touch and finished the encounter with two tries and a conversion.
Paying tribute to North, Robertson added: “He was really pleased. He said a couple of words and how it’s been a tough year for him personally. He mentioned the opportunity that came to him a lot and how he’s going to make the most of it.
“So it’s a nice way to finish, as you know, against your own country. The first touch wasn’t it, he just showed how classy he was and we’ll remember for a lot of tests but most importantly he’s all class, a great and a gentleman.”
