Barbarian F.C have appointed the hugely experienced and respected duo of Susie Appleby and Sarah Hunter as head coach and assistant coach respectively for the double header fixture against Wales at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
Barbarian F.C Women’s side will take on Wales on Saturday 27th June, kicking off at 5pm, following the Men’s fixture, against the same opposition which kicks off at 2pm.
The landmark double header in West London is set to be a showcase of rugby, with two Barbarians sides taking the field to entertain supporters, celebrating the spirit and heritage of Barbarian F.C
Appleby brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role, having built a reputation as one of the most respected figures in the women’s game. A former England international, Appleby has transitioned seamlessly into coaching, holding key roles across club and international pathways. Known for her leadership, technical insight, and commitment to developing attacking rugby, she embodies the core Barbarians philosophy of playing with ambition and creativity.
Hunter is one of the most decorated players in the history of women’s rugby. A former England captain and record appearance holder, Hunter’s influence on the modern game is profound. Since retiring from international rugby, she has moved into coaching and mentoring, bringing her deep understanding of elite performance, leadership, and team culture into this new role. Her presence ensures a strong connection between the Barbarians tradition and the modern women’s game.
This fixture marks another significant chapter in the growth of Barbarians Women’s rugby. Since the inaugural women’s match in 2017, the Barbarians Women have gone from strength to strength, showcasing elite talent from across the globe while staying true to the club’s ethos of entertaining, expressive rugby. Each match has contributed to building a legacy that continues to inspire players and fans alike, and this encounter with Wales promises to be no exception.

“I grew up watching the Baa-Baas. The black and white jersey is iconic and steeped in so much rugby history. It is an honour to be asked to coach the Barbarians alongside legend and friend, Sarah Hunter. I love free-flowing rugby so to be invited to work with world class players from around the globe and to be given free rein to encourage them to just play is a dream come true. I cannot wait.”
