Jacobus Francois Pienaar

Jacobus Francois Pienaar was born in Vereeniging on 2 January 1967 and educated at Transvalia/Patriot School and Rand Afrikaans University. He played at flanker for Transvaal. Following his provincial debut in 1987 he took over the captaincy and led them to Currie Cup and Super 10 titles. His 40 games for the Springboks included the captaincy in all of his 29 tests between 1993 and 1996. Francois Pienaar was captain of South Africa when they won the Rugby World Cup in 1995. He was also captain over the Barbarians in the 55-33 victory over Leicester at Twickenham in 1999.
