Australia quartet and New Zealand centre join Barbarians

Australia’s Sam Carter, Luke Morahan, Paddy Ryan and Toby Smith will join the Barbarians to face South Africa, the Czech Republic and Fiji in November. Tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk

Brumbies lock Carter, Force wing Morahan, Rebels prop Smith and Waratahs prop Ryan join Robbie Deans’s squad next week to start the build-up to the Killik Cup match against the Springboks on November 5 at Wembley Stadium.

They will be joined by uncapped hooker Andrew Ready (Reds) and London-born scrum half Nic Stirzaker (Rebels) as well as two of New Zealand’s most talented young backs.

Crusaders centre Seta Tamanivalu won his first three All Blacks caps this summer and is joined by Blues flier Melani Nanai, one of the Auckland franchise’s outstanding performers this year.

Deans and assistant coach Will Greenwood now have some of Super Rugby’s outstanding attacking talents on board with a final group of players to be announced in due course.

The latest call-ups join internationals Andy Ellis (Crusaders & New Zealand) and Taqele Naiyaravoro (Waratahs & Australia), Hurricanes Super Rugby winners Brad Shields, Michael Fatialofa and Reggie Goodes, Richard Mo’unga and Jordan Taufua from the Crusaders, and Matt Faddes and Luke Whitelock from the Highlanders.

Also on board are Ulster’s Ruan Pienaar (South Africa) and Dan Tuohy (Ireland) for the match against Fiji at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast on November 11.

The Barbarians are taking on South Africa for the eighth time since 1952 and lead the series 4-3 after victories in 2007 and 2010.

The 125 year-old invitation club won 26-20 in 2010 when tries from Australia’s Drew Mitchell (2), James O’Connor and Italy’s Quintin Geldenhuys secured victory.

In 2007 the Barbarians were the first side to beat the newly-crowned World Champions with a 22-5 win that saw Australia’s Matt Giteau and Rocky Elsom, and Wales’s Martyn Williams touch down.
