The famous invitation club welcomed the World Rugby cameras behind the scenes before and during the Killik Cup match and the behind the scenes look at the Baa-baas won’t disappoint.

The likes of Andy Ellis, Julian Savea and Willie Britz guide us through the build up to the big game that takes in everything from planning special moves, a fancy dress evening out and a training ground encounter with Steve Backshall’s menagerie of wild creatures.

Star guests Bryan Habana, Jamie Roberts and Derek Quinnell tell us what it was like to be part of the Barbarians teams to beat the All Blacks in 1973 and 2009.

Current coaches Robbie Deans Scott Robertson and Will Greenwood give their unique take on how to prepare a team from scratch with five days of preparation, while club chairman John Spencer — the British & Irish Lions tour manager in New Zealand in 2017 — supplies the historic perspective on a club that has been entertaining on and off the field since its foundation in 1890.

Most of all, though, it’s about how a unique group of players come together to face the ultimate rugby challenge. 

“A lot of these guys you’re playing with you’ve been playing against for years so when you get to meet them first hand there’s a bit of nervous energy,” said Ellis, who captained the side.

“We often head out get together on the first evening for a meal then head out and have a couple of quiet ones, and before you know it we’re getting on pretty well and those friendships have started."
