The Barbarians are famous for the thrilling brand of Champagne rugby played throughout their 128-year history. Now the Baa-baas and Champagne Pol Roger have teamed up to celebrate sparkling attacking play by teams at every level of the game with a fabulous prize.

There are 12 bottles of Champagne Pol Roger Brut Reserve on offer to the adult team whose try-scoring exploits impress our panel of distinguished judges.

They’ll be looking for sparkling attacking play, length of the field moves and displays of outstanding skill and invention.

The winners will be selected by the panel of our Chairman John Spencer, committee members Rory Lawson and Shane Jennings and women’s coach Giselle Mather.

  • The competition is open to UK rugby union clubs, excluding the Gallagher Premiership and Guinness Pro-14, who can enter by posting their best Barbarians-style try on YouTube and emailing the link and match details to

  • Clips must be no more than one minute in duration and we need the match details to include the date, venue and scoreline of the match along with a nominated contact at the club and their details.

Our competition celebrates Pol Roger's partnership with the Barbarians as the Official Champagne of the world famous club for the 2018-19 season. The house has been a longstanding supporter of sporting competition and is already the official Champagne of Bath Rugby.

Maison Pol Roger owns 92 hectares of vineyards in prime sites across the Vallée de la Marne, Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. The cellars run for 7km and the deepest, known as the ‘cave de prise de mousse', is at 34m below street level where the temperature is 9°C or less, thus prolonging fermentation and contributing to the unmistakeable quality and style of the wines and their famously fine bubbles.

Paul Graham, Director of Business Development at Pol Roger Portfolio, said of the partnership: “We are delighted to be partnering with such an exciting ‘sporting institution’ such as the Baa-baa’s men’s and women’s teams. Champagne Pol Roger has a rich tradition of enjoying and supporting domestic and international rugby.  We look forward to an exciting partnership featuring alongside some of the worlds most talented rugby players.”

Chris Maidment, Honorary Secretary of Barbarian FC said: “The Barbarians and Pol Roger both have a rich heritage stretching back into the 19th century and a shared commitment to excellence and enjoyment.

“These qualities are as important today as when we were both founded and we’re delighted to form this partnership. Pol Roger’s partnership with the Barbarians underlines the affection and respect in which this unique club is held in the sporting world."
