Barbarians portraits turn clock back to 1890

WP Carpmael and Stephen Moore

The Barbarians summoned up the spirit of 1890 ahead of their 125th anniversary match at Twickenham.

Barbarians players from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa posed for images that echo an 1890s portrait of the club’s founder William Percy Carpmael.

South Africa’s Victor Matfield, Australia’s Stephen Moore and New Zealand’s Nehe Milner-Skudder posed for the pictures taken and digitally enhanced by Getty Images.

Australia captain Moore is the star of the show with a Victorian moustache that puts him into the period perfectly for the picture taken by Getty's Chris Lee.
