Percival Colin Montgomery was born in Walvis Bay on 15 March 1974 and educated at SACS and Cape Technical College. He played for the Coastal Sharks, Western Province and the Stormers. Between 1997 and 2008 he set new records for South Africa in caps (102), as a full-back (87), test points (893) plus another 13 points in uncapped matches. In 2000 he played at fly-half for South Africa against the Barbarians and kicked four conversions. In 2002/03 he played for Newport RFC in Wales and scored 207 points in 17 appearances. He later played for Perpignan in France and returned to south Wales to play for the Newport Gwent Dragons before resuming his international career in 2005. Percy Montgomery also played for the Barbarians on three summer tours. He later became kicking coach for the Springboks.
