Bryan Gary Habana was born in Johannesburg on 12 June 1983 and educated at King Edward VIII School and Rand Afrikaans University. Originally a scrum-half he found fame as a world-class wing for the Golden Lions, Blue Bulls, Western Province and the Stormers. He first played for South Africa in 2004 and in 2007 was the top try scorer in the Rugby World Cup with eight tries in the tournament won by the Springboks. In the same year he was voted the International Rugby Board's world player of the year. By August 2011 he had scored 38 tries in 70 tests for South Africa. His try-scoring exploits extended to the Barbarians, claiming a hat-trick in their victory over New Zealand at Twickenham in 2009. Bryan Habana also played against the Barbarians for the Springboks at Wembley Stadium in 2008.
