Andrew Robertson Irvine was born in Edinburgh on 16 September 1951 and played at full-back for Heriot's FP. He scored 273 points in 51 internationals for Scotland between 1972 and 1982 and later became president of the Scottish Rugby Union. A great favourite with the Barbarians he scored 127 points in 16 appearances, including matches against New Zealand (1974 and 1978) and Australia and Canada (1976). A triple British & Irish Lion between 1974 and 1978, he scored 274 points in 38 games (including 9 tests) and will manage the Lions' tour to Australia in 2013.
