Back row forward Octavian Morariu became the first Romanian to represent the Barbarians when he played against Swansea on the 1987 Easter tour. He was born on 7 August 1961, was a member of the Grivita Rose club and won two caps for Romania in 1984 and 1985. He later became president of the Romanian Rugby Federation.
