Robert Paperemborde was born in Laruns on 5 July 1948. At various times he was a farmer, shopkeeper and in business with Jean-Pierre Rives. He played at prop for Pau. His 55 internationals for France between 1975 and 1983 included five as captain and two Five Nations' grand slams. He became a vice-president of the French Federation and was manager of the France team between 1984 and 1992. Robert Paparemborde died on 18 April 2001 aged 52.
