Jason Thorpe Robinson was born in Leeds on 30 July 1974 and educated at Matthew Murray High School. Originally a wing in rugby league where he played for Hunslet and chiefly Wigan, he played in 12 tests for Great Britain and seven for England before switching to rugby union, first with Bath Rugby and then, more successfully, with Sale Sharks. He went on to score 28 tries in 51 internationals for England between 2001 and 2007, was a try-scorer when England won the Rugby World Cup Final in 2003, and was captain in 2004/5 and again in 2007. On the 2001 British Isles' tour of Australia he played in seven matches, including the three tests, and scored ten tries, including five against the Queensland President's XV and one in both the first and third tests. Following the 2007 RWC Final Jason Robinson was a member of the Barbarians' team that defeated world champions South Africa at Twickenham. He became head coach at Sale Sharks in 2009/10 and then was player/coach with Fylde before finally retiring as a player at the end of the 2010/11 season.
