Michael John Catt was born in Port Elizabeth on 17 September 1971 and educated at Grey High School. He came to England and from 1992 played 13 seasons for Bath and then another six seasons for London Irish. A versatile back who played at the top level at fly-half, centre, full-back and wing, he scored 142 points in 75 internationals for England between 1994 and 2007. He was a member of the triumphant Rugby World Cup team in 2003 and also played in the 2007 final. He joined the 1997 British Isles' tour of South Africa as a replacement and scored two tries in his six appearances, including one test. On the 2001 tour to Australia injury limited him to one game. Mike Catt also played for England against the Barbarians in 2006. Two years later he was a Barbarian himself when he was assistant backs' coach on the summer tour and played as a replacement against England. He also coached London Irish before joining the England coaching staff in 2012.
